We often get the question: Is everything back from Hurricane Katrina?

The answer we give is two fold: In some places, you’d never know that it happened, and in some ways New Orleans is better than ever! But there are other places...homes, hospitals, even a 140-acre amusement park that remain abandoned to this day. Hurricane Katrina destroyed over 200,000 buildings, displacing more than 800,000 people. Many of these buildings have been demolished or lovingly restored, while others remain simply forgotten.

For safety reasons, these dilapidating structures and places are often off limits to the public. This book by photographer Leland Kent offers a glimpse into the beautiful urban ruins that are left behind with an extraordinary look at eight historic and abandoned locations. From a hospital where patients and staff were trapped during the storm, to a long forgotten Nazi internment camp, and the first high school built for African-American students. Each chapter gives an in-depth look at these places accompanied by a gallery of stunning imagery.
